1980s
1985 - Georgia Gulf Corporation is formed through the acquisition of a majority of the chemical assets from Georgia-Pacific Corporation for approximately $250 million. At that time, the company had operations facilities in six locations: Gallman, Mississippi; Tiptonville, Tennessee; Bound Brook, New Jersey; Pasadena, Texas; Delaware City, Delaware; and Plaquemine, Louisiana.
1986 – Georgia Gulf becomes a public company, listed on the NASDAQ, with an intial public offering of 4 million shares of common stock.
1987 – Georgia Gulf is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE:GGC).
1988 – GGC begins an aggressive plant expansion, increasing operating capacity nearly 30% by 1994.
1989 – GGC recapitalizes the company by exchanging each outstanding share of common stock for one new share, a subordinated note and cash.
1990s
1994 - GGC expands vinyl resins manufacturing facility in Plaquemine, Louisiana.
1995 – GGC announces process upgrade and expansion of the cumene plant in Pasadena, Texas.
1995 – GGC announces 168 million pound expansion of Gallman, Mississippi vinyl compound plant.
1996 – GGC modernizes its Vinyl Chloride Monomer manufacturing facility in Plaquemine, Louisiana, to increase efficiency in its vertical integration stream.
1996 – Georgia Gulf completes construction of 250-megawatt cogeneration and air separation plants in Plaquemine, Louisiana, to supply substantially all of its requirements for electricity, oxygen and nitrogen at that location.
1998 – GGC grows its compounding capacity by purchasing North American Plastics, a producer of flexible vinyl compound.
1999 – GGC further builds its compounding and resin capabilities by acquiring the vinyls assets of CONDEA Vista.
2003 – GGC announces further expansion of its Gallman, Mississippi, compounding facility. When completed in 2004, this vinyl compound facility became one of the largest merchant vinyl compound facilities in North America.
2005 - GGC announces $100 million modernization of vinyl resin facility at Plaquemine, Louisiana.
2006 – GGC continues its growth strategy with the acquisition of Royal Group Technologies Limited. As a result of the acquisition, GGC transforms itself from a chlorovinyls and aromatics manufacturing company into a fully integrated building products company.
2011 – GGC acquires the Exterior Portfolio premium siding business from Columbus, Ohio-based Crane Group. The acquisition makes Georgia Gulf the third-largest producer of vinyl siding in North America and solidifies the company's presence in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the United States.
